NIS America has released a significant update to the PC version (via Steam) of Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, which introduces local co-op.
The official description of this update reads: ” Two players can now team up not only to battle monsters and explore dungeons but also to explore Balduq City. “
The update also adds support for different aspect ratios besides 16:9, such as the 16:10 present in the Steam Deck, and fixes some minor bugs.
Still, on the cooperative mode, the company made it clear that this is different from the cooperative mode present in Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. In that one, the co-op was mostly limited to combat. At the same time, in this new format, the second player has the same freedom and ability as the first, all types of movement and combat skills (except for the interaction with the map and menus), exclusive to player one.
Another aspect that they insisted on highlighting as an evolution to the previous mode is the possibility of freely exchanging with other characters that are stopped. For example, if a third character is stopped at the party, any player can access that character and use it.
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is an action RPG developed by Nihon Falcom, available for PlayStation 4 (since 2019 in Japan and since 2020 in the rest of the world), for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, and Stadia since July 2021.
