The subscription service Xbox Live Gold will no longer be required to play free games online multiplayer, as Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, Destiny 2, and Apex Legends on Xbox consoles Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S.
The end of the subscription requirement allows players who do not subscribe to access functions such as group search and group chat.
For now, the novelty is being tested in the Xbox Preview program. Industry leader Brad Rossetti announced the experiments in a Twitter post.
It is unknown when the measure officially arrives for the entire base of players who own an Xbox. A subscription will still be required to play paid games with an online multiplayer system.
In the same week, the news was announced that Xbox Live changed its name to Xbox network to move away from the similarities of nomenclature that it has with Xbox Live Gold. The idea is to avoid confusion between the online ecosystem of Microsoft’s gaming division and the subscription service.
