The return of the WWE 2K franchise brings one of the greatest wrestlers of recent times on its cover – Rey Misterio. Headed by a living legend, WWE 2K22 is set for release on March 11, 2022.
The fighter acknowledged that this was an “incredible moment.” “To be able to represent the culture of Lucha Libre on the cover of WWE 2K22 is a moment of great pride, not only for me but for the generations that come after me and for all my people – for all Latinos, this is a big moment.”
In addition to the cover honors, Mysterio will also have his career highlighted in Showcase Mode. This game mode traditionally allows players to relive some of the most memorable matches in Wrestling history.
Rey Misterio’s career is not short of memorable moments, with the fighter admitting that he is looking forward to sharing his match against Eddie Guerrero at WrestleMania 21 and the match against Shawn Michaels on Smackdown, played on November 14, 2005, which served as a tribute to Guerrero, who had died the day before.
Mysterio joins the select group of wrestlers who have graced the covers of WWE 2K, including Roman Reigns, Becky Lynch, AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar, Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena, and The Rock.
WWE 2K22 is the first WWE 2K game since the disappointing WWE2K20, released in 2019, riddled with bugs and severe issues. In this entry, the Visual Concepts studio wants to write a new page for the franchise through a redesigned game engine, a new control scheme, and new game modes, especially MyGM, which allows players to assume the role of general manager of a league of a wrestling league.
