Viking Vengeance is a new Nordic-themed roguelike that will be released on Steam on April 8.
Although the producers won’t admit it, it seems highly inspired by Hades, the roguelike from Supergiant Games that received several awards for Best Game of the Year in 2020. The difference is that instead of being based on Greek mythology, it uses Norse mythology.
In Viking Vengeance, you control a Templar of pagan origins who discovers his ability to control the Norse gods’ various powers. With those powers, you will have to fight to stop Ragnarok.
The game has two classes to choose from and permanent evolution; that is, even after you die, your character will retain its attributes. You can equip different runes of the gods, which give access to different powers. You can even transform yourself into avatars of gods like Thor, Loki, and Odin.
One of Viking Vengeance’s distinguishing features is that after you die, you can bribe a Valkyrie to escape Valhalla. Your options will be to be relived on the spot or return to the last saved location.
