Valve sent out the second batch of emails to those hoping to purchase a Steam Deck in Q1 2022. While this is good news for those looking to play on the portable PC, it is interesting that the company has announced that it’s “looking to make the Steam Deck available” in more countries.
As pointed out by a press release, Valve has confirmed that it wants to expand the Steam Deck’s reach to other markets “by the end of the year.” Although the company did not detail which countries it wanted to serve with the Steam Deck, it mentions that Japan was one of the company’s markets. The company also notes that the team is “continuing efforts in this regard” and promises to share more news about additional markets as it has more information.
Currently, those who want to make a $5 reservation for the Steam Deck (or those lucky few who managed to buy one) need to live in the US, Canada, the European Union, or the UK.
The news that Valve wants to bring the Steam Deck to more countries is no big surprise. The idea of a portable gaming PC from a well-established company like Valve, along with an affordable value when you consider a gaming PC (let alone a laptop) capable of playing the latest games, is appealing. Even Valve admitted that demand for the Steam Deck was higher than anticipated.
