During the Epic Games “State of Unreal 2022” event, Crystal Dynamics General Manager Dallas Dickinson officially announced the development of a new chapter in the Tomb Raider series. The game is now in production on Unreal Engine 5, and the studio has promised “a high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience.”
Crystal Dynamics worked on the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy, consisting of Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015), and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018), with the latter supposed to be the final chapter of the story. In January 2021, Netflix announced that a Tomb Raider anime series set after the video game events would soon arrive. There is a good chance that this new chapter in production is set after the TV events mentioned above.
Unfortunately, Dickinson hasn’t shown any images or revealed any further information about the game, so it’s currently impossible to know when it will be released. Since this is a video game in UE5, it is practically certain that we will only see it on PC and next-gen consoles, while for the release, we can hypothesize a window between 2024 and 2025.
