We finally got our first look at the 2018 God of War sequel. As previously expected, the game is officially called God of War: Ragnarok, and the new trailer showed us some familiar characters.
During the PlayStation Showcase, it was quickly confirmed that it is indeed Thor that we see in the trailer, but we only saw his hammer. We have now received a full picture of the god, and the God of Thunder looks slightly different than we are used to.
Anyone who has completed God of War will remember a true ending where you already see Thor walking, just like we see in the new trailer, which suggests that Kratos and Thor will fight each other.
Sony Santa Monica Art Director Raf Grassetti took to Twitter to share a photo of this version of Thor, which looks a lot like the Norse mythology version of the character.
In an interview with the developer just after the PlayStation Showcase, Sony Santa Monica’s Eric Williams spoke about the game and revealed that it was indeed Thor we saw. His voice is provided by Ryan Hurst, known as Opie Winston in Sons of Anarchy.
Williams said that Thor in the game “will be different from the Australian hunk you may know,” referring to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in the MCU. However, Thor is somewhat like God of War’s version.
There is currently no official release date for God of War: Ragnarok, but the game is currently slated for 2022.
