Despite some rumors and certain insiders pointing to the contrary, there will be a new Call of Duty in 2021, and the tradition will not be broken. Activision has confirmed that Sledgehammer is developing the game that will be released this year, although not many details have been given.
It was revealed during an Activision-Blizzard shareholders meeting in the first quarter of the year, where the company confirmed that the game “looks great” and is on track for release during 2021. It will include a single-player campaign, multiplayer mode, and a cooperative, and “will be integrated with the existing improved ecosystem for Call of Duty,” perhaps referring to its compatibility with Warzone as it happened with the last Black Ops Cold War. It has also been confirmed to offer “a next-gen experience .”
Beyond that, we don’t have much more details about the upcoming Call of Duty, although Activision has promised to release more details soon. Other rumors suggested that the next Sledgehammer game would be called Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard and would incorporate a World War II theme. However, now there is also other different information. We will see.
The last titles in the franchise developed by Sledgehammer have been Call of Duty: WWII and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. They assisted Infinity Ward and Treyarch in creating the last two titles in the series. Some rumors also suggested that this game would be canceled by Activision, making 2021 the first year in history without a new Call of Duty. Now we know that the tradition will remain intact.
