The Need for Speed fans will have to wait a lot before putting their hands on the automotive series of Electronic Arts steering wheels. The video game giant has indeed announced the temporary suspension of work on the next chapter of the franchise.
The reason: the Criterion Games development team goes to help EA DICE in the development of the new chapter of the Battlefield saga, scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X / S by the end of the year. As a result, the Need For Speed series will skip release in 2021 and finish next year, with a release window starting in March 2022.
Laura Miele, Chief Studio Officer for Electronic Arts, explained that this move was necessary to buffer the work difficulties brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. Miele, however, reassured about the status of the two series, explaining that Electronic Arts is not canceling the next Need For Speed and that the work will still be in the hands of Criterion Games once the work on the new Battlefield is finished.
It should be noted that it is not the first time that the Criterion Games team has dealt with weapons and shootings: in 2006, in fact, he created, again for Electronic Arts, the dynamic first-person shooter Black.
