Electronic Arts have partnered with Middle-earth Enterprises, a division of The Saul Zaentz Company, to develop a new free-to-play game for mobile devices. The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth is the name chosen for the collectible role-playing game coming to iOS and Android. It promises a “strategic, social and competitive” experience and fun for all ages. With this product, EA intends to continue to increase the value of its mobile business, which is already at high levels thanks to FIFA Mobile and the new Apex Legends.
EA explains that The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth will feature immersive storytelling, turn-based combat, a deep collection system, and a large roster of characters from the vast universe of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Players will fight through iconic stories from Tolkien’s world. According to the software house’s description, some gacha system seems plausible for finding heroes, as the game is described as a “free-to-play collectible RPG with microtransactions.”
“We are incredibly excited to partner with The Saul Zaentz Company and Middle-earth Enterprises on the next generation of mobile RPGs,” said Malachi Boyle, Vice President of Mobile RPG for Electronic Arts. “The team is filled with fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, and every day they bring together their enormous passion and talent to deliver an authentic experience to the players. The combination of high fidelity graphics, cinematic animations, and stylized art immerses players in the fantasy of Middle-earth, where they will go head to head with their favorite characters. ” The game is in development and is expected to debut on mobile in 2022. Playtesting begins this summer.
