Thanks to a fan mod in the works, Elden Ring will have unofficial VR support on PC this week.
Luke Ross, who has already added VR to Grand Theft Auto V and Cyberpunk 2077, said in a Patreon post (spotted by Road to VR ) that a playable version of Elden Ring in VR would be available this week.
Ross said the project ” will probably be a work-in-progress for quite some time,” but a YouTube video of the game’s first two minutes shows a fair set-up experience as Ross walks through one of the Midlands zones. Suffice to say, the Grafted Kindred boss in the area will be even more disgusting from this perspective.
You can watch the video below:
With the VR headset on, Ross can walk in first person, look up at the collapsed ceiling, drop down to pick up items, and peek around corners as the colossal Golden Tree appears for the first time. Ross appears to use a sword and shield in the demo, but they don’t appear to be linked to motion controllers.
Unlike some VR games that stagger movement for less motion sickness, the mod gives players complete freedom to move like Elden Ring, and Ross warns them to get their VR legs in shape. ” They will be put to the test,” he said in the post.
As swinging swords and rolling back and forth are common in Elden Ring, Ross told PC Gamer that this would be another challenge for VR, stressing that his mods are meant for veteran VR users.
” When rolling or doing other scripted animations, like combat moves, the camera follows the character’s head (so its position changes), but it stays oriented correctly based on what your head is doing in real life,” he said. ” Thus, the horizon will remain level, and the world will always look stable. “
Regardless, completing Elden Ring solely in VR will likely be the next crazy way players choose to take on the game. Someone has already beaten a boss using the Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controller, while others have completed the game without taking or dealing damage.
