As usual, Nintendo Direct ended with the canonical final surprise, and it will certainly have caught the Kyoto house fans by surprise. Splatoon 3 was officially announced with a full-bodied movie, despite the publication of the second episode on Switch in 2017.
Nintendo has announced Splatoon 3, Third Person Squidling Multiplayer on Nintendo Direct today. The game is slated for release in 2022 on the Nintendo Switch!
Players will visit Splatlands and “City of Chaos” Splatsville. As Turf War 4v4 matches return, players will have new weapons such as bows, new customization options (including a little Salmonid friend called Smallfry), and new movement abilities.
New movement capabilities include a dolphin-like leap spinning out of ink (the Ink Roll) and letting players quickly climb over ink-covered walls and leap out when they reach the top (the Ink Climb).
The bow mentioned above is capable of firing three strands of ink at once. The new special weapon appears to be the robotic crab and the Killer Wail miniature speaker. Some of the classic main guns are returning; compete with new designs.
