You may not even remember it since there have been no updates for a while, but a mobile reboot of Final Fantasy XI, the hugely successful MMORPG from Square Enix, was in development. Let’s talk about the past because Nexon, responsible for the development and the Japanese house, has officially announced the title’s cancellation.
If you were hoping to return to playing Final Fantasy XI on your mobiles, we have some bad news. Nexon has officially canceled Final Fantasy XI Reboot, the MMORPG in development in collaboration with Square Enix for mobile devices, gematsu confirmed.
The reason is that the game did not reach the quality standards required by both companies and expected by fans of the Final Fantasy series. The staff working on the title has been reassigned to other projects.
Final Fantasy XI Reboot was announced in March 2015 and was due out in 2016. Plans didn’t go as planned, and today we can officially put a stone on this project. Another MMORPG from Square Enix is instead in excellent health. Obviously, we are talking about Final Fantasy XIV, which is constantly updated with new expansions coming.
