The Elder Scrolls VI will be an Xbox exclusive, but whether absolute or temporal remains understood. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox and vice president of the gaming section, spoke to GQ’s microphones on the occasion of the twentieth birthday of the platform, without however definitively confirming whether PlayStation and Nintendo users will have to say goodbye to one of the most anticipated games of the next decade.
Speaking of the acquisition of ZeniMax to GQ’s microphones, Phil Spencer acknowledged exclusives as a hot topic and confirmed that he sees The Elder Scrolls VI situation similar to that of Starfield: “For us, these are not about choices to punish other platforms. I think everyone can and wants to grow, but our mission is to bring the full package to our users as this is Xbox. That’s what I think, but it’s not just The Elder Scrolls VI, but any of our franchises “.
In summary, the words of Phil Spencer confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI will receive the same treatment that will be reserved for Starfield in 2022, that is, exclusively released on Xbox and PC, perhaps also on Game Pass. What is not confirmed is the possibility of seeing or not seeing the game on other platforms in the future. After a few years, it could be useful to abandon the exclusivity to increase revenues by offering the game to other users.
In recent years Sony and Nintendo have conquered the market thanks to the exclusives, so it is possible that Microsoft also intends to adapt to increase the sales of their consoles and subscriptions to Game Pass. The initial strategy was not received too positively, with Bethesda forced to apologize for the exclusivity of Starfield and several complaints from longtime fans who do not have an Xbox or a gaming PC. Still, it seems that Phil Spencer is convinced that exclusivity is the way to go.
