The Chinese company Tencent is still number one globally in the video game sector, with 32.94 billion dollars grossed in 2021. The data, reported a few hours ago by a market analyst, is based on what was reported in the report’s financial statements published in recent months by various Western and Eastern video game companies, including Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft.
Tencent grossed $ 32.94 billion in 2021 (Ed. The 32.28 billion reported in the attached post are the result of a conversion error), mainly thanks to mobile video games including PUBG and Valorant Brawl Stars and Clash of Clans. In second place in the ranking, we find Sony with 24.87 billion dollars, distanced by ten billion from the Chinese giant, while Microsoft closes the podium with 16.28 billion. Nintendo is in fourth place with $ 15.3 billion, but rises to second place if we look at the impressive operating income of 5.4 billion, more than double that of Sony. NetEase closes the circle in the fifth position, with 8.37 billion collected in 2021.
Two companies outside the Top 5 are worth mentioning, namely Activision Blizzard and Apple. The first earned a good 8.1 billion in 2021 despite its smaller size, while the second recorded crazy numbers on the software side, equal to those of Nintendo, almost exclusively thanks to the withholding of 30% on the earnings of the games on the App Store.
