Stray, Annapurna Interactive’s cyberpunk video game with the cat, is now the best-reviewed title of 2022 on Steam, with 98% positive reviews. The game has surpassed the God of War score in the first position since last January’s launch and is unlikely to lose the top of the leaderboard before December 31st. For Annapurna, however, the most important news is another: Stray is the most successful video game of the software house ever on Steam, with over 60,000 active players on launch day, a triple-A figure.
According to data shared by SteamDB and Steam250, Stray has received more than 40,000 reviews since launch, of which 98% were positive. On the other hand, God of War has received just over 50,000, 97% positive. Of course, the Santa Monica Studio game has brought more cash into the company’s coffers, mostly due to the introductory price. Still, Stray has quickly become a media phenomenon and is quickly shattering all of Annapurna Interactive’s records, which may have found a new franchise at this point.
Stray puts players in the shoes of a stray cat lost in a cyberpunk metropolis enclosed within high walls, populated entirely by robots. During his adventure, the Stray will collaborate with the robot B-12 to try to reach “L’Oltre,” the outside world, considered by many to be a legend. The adventure lasts just over five hours and has received critical and public acclaim, and with all the reservations, it may have earned some nominations for the GOTY 2022.
