While Square Enix has sold most of its European and US divisions to focus on Japan, the company still intends to release some games in the West, the corporation said.
We already reported on the acquisitions of Eidos, Crystal Dynamics, and Square Enix Montreal together with licenses for the surprisingly low amount of $ 300 million this morning.
Square Enix wants to invest some of the money raised in blockchain technologies, but the statement of the Japanese corporation states that this does not mean a complete withdrawal from the market in the West.
“The company’s development activities will be performed in the future by studios in Japan, Square Enix External Studios [publishing, for example, Polish Outriders – dop. Ed.] and Square Enix Collective [publisher of smaller indie games]” – it was written.
“Overseas studios will continue to publish series such as Just Cause, Outriders, and Life is Strange,” added. In the past, SE External Studios was responsible, for example, for Sleeping Dogs and Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Square Enix Collective has a similar role but deals with smaller titles, including PowerWash Simulator, The Turing Test, Fear Effect Sedna, and Boundless.
Some hints on such plans could be heard last month when the company’s president spoke in an interview with Japanese Yahoo. Although it is crucial to achieving global success, creating games with a Western audience in mind is not necessary.
Speaking of the echoes of the takeover, it has already been confirmed that Crystal Dynamics intends to continue supporting work on Perfect Dark for Microsoft. Embracer Group currently owns the studio, and the contract was signed under the aegis of Square Enix.
