Spellbreak, the free battle royale with the wizards of Proletariat, has reached the end of its life cycle and will close its doors definitively at the beginning of 2023. The game had had an excellent launch in September 2020 on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch, but the lack of updates and the diminishing interest of the community have doomed the battle royale to a premature end. The studio announced that the servers will go offline in just over six months and that from then on, it will no longer be possible to access the game.
“After four years of elemental magic and spells, we have decided to wrap up development of Spellbreak,” CEO Seth Sivak wrote on the official website. “The servers will be shut down in early 2023, and we want to thank the millions of players who have been with us since 2018. Our goal was to create a fresh multiplayer experience with spells, class customization, and spells, and we are grateful to the community for exploring the world we have created. Spellbreak has been an ambitious project, and we will continue to improve by creating innovative new games in the future. “
Spellbreak isn’t the first battle royale to close its doors this year. Ubisoft’s HyperScape ended its life cycle on April 28th, and the reason was pretty much the same: too few players and too high costs to maintain live service support. We will see if Proletariat’s next work will have more luck.
