Jagex and Flying Wild Hog have announced Space Punks, a cartoon-style action RPG set in an irreverent sci-fi world. Unveiled through a first official trailer, the game will see four playable characters in what appears to be a fusion between the style of Borderlands and the perspective of Diablo and Path of Exile.
With the announcement trailer that you can discover below, the authors of Shadow Warrior have unveiled Space Punks: it is an action RPG that will allow players to control four different characters within a sci-fi world.
The trailer allows us to discover more details about the characters: the first is Duke, a charming man who resembles Star-Lord (leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy ) and who sports a lethal mini-gun. At his side are three other characters, currently unnamed: The Crazy One, a hybrid between man and pig armed with a double blaster; The Smart One, a mantis-like alien that can whiz through enemies and plant bombs here and there; finally, there is The Scary One, a woman characterized by dark tentacles that can emerge from her back and stab enemies.
Although the visual style immediately recalls the Borderlands series, Space Punks is characterized by an isometric perspective and seems to share more than one element with games of the caliber of Diablo and Path of Exile, to which is added a great abundance of weapons. The Flying Wild Hog project also appears to include a loot system featuring very brightly colored objects. At the same time, each character should offer various unique abilities and melee weapons, and offensive solutions for long-range hitting.
At the time of writing, there is no concrete launch window for Space Punks. Still, we know that the cooperative role-playing game will collaborate with Jagex, formerly responsible for Runescape, who will take care of the production. Flying Wild Hog, the Polish team known for Hard Reset and Shadow Warrior, is currently also working on Evil West, a project that looks like a Doom in a gothic sauce, judging by the first trailer.
