After the rather difficult to grasp Sniper Elite 5 announcement during The Game Awards 2021, the Rebellion studio decided to disclose the game and present the trailer fully. The production will go in 2022 for two generations of Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
Sniper Elite 5 re-stars Karl Fairburne in tactical shooting with sniper rifles but shifts the action to France in 1944. The close-ups of the cameras from the series are returning, “shining” the enemies after a hit – the developers say that they are now “more realistic and more terrifying.”
“As part of US Rangers’ operations to weaken the Atlantic Wall fortifications off the coast of Brittany, Karl is in contact with the French resistance,” says Rebellion. “They soon discover a secret Nazi project that could end the war before the Allied invasion of Europe: Operation Kraken. Karl’s job is to eliminate high-level Nazi officers and end Operation Kraken.
The developers promise the largest and “most engaging” maps in the series’ history, created in part with photogrammetry, i.e., the technique of scanning real terrain or objects. There are several entry and infiltration points on the boards, and the shooting physics has been improved.
The campaign can be played alone or in cooperation, but the latter mode has been improved – players can now share ammunition and heal each other. In addition, a survival mode based on successive waves of enemies and something for PvP fans – raids will allow you to infiltrate another person’s game. Plus, multiplayer battles for 16 players.
Sniper Elite 5 will go to the Xbox Game Pass service on its release. Unlike the spin-off of the series, Zombie Army 4: Dead War, released in 2020, the new part of the series will not be an Epic Games PC time exclusivity – we will also buy it for the premiere on Steam.
