The absence of VRR, Variable Refresh Rate, on PlayStation 5 has been much debated and requested by gamers, and this implementation is very soon.
VRR support will be through new firmware, which may be imminent. According to Vincent Teoh of YouTuve HDTVTest, thank you wccftech, the new televisions that Sony will bring to market next spring already include VRR support at launch.
Sony had already mentioned that the PS5 would support Variable Refresh Rate but wouldn’t be available at the console’s launch. A firmware update will be required for this support which will only be available via HDMI 2.1.
The consoles from Microsoft, Xbox One X, and Xbox Series X|S already have support for Variable Refresh Rate and the 1440p resolution, much requested by users of the new Sony console.
