Atlus may have an announcement in the pipeline regarding Persona 3, the outstanding JRPG from Shin Megami Tensei’s spin-off series. It is not clear what it is, but according to various rumors, the announcement would be scheduled for 20 or 21 of September, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the series. Although there are still no confirmations in this sense, some initiatives proposed by Atlus in recent days have helped fuel the doubts.
The first clue is the free-to-air transmission of the four Persona 3 anime, namely Persona 3: Spring of Birth, Midsummer Knight’s Dream, Falling Down, and Winter of Rebirth, screened in Japanese cinemas from 2013 to 2016 and now surprisingly arriving on AbemaTV. These films act as a direct transposition of the video game’s events, and Atlus’ choice to announce the broadcast in conjunction with the 25th anniversary event raised some doubts.
The second clue is the arrival of new merchandise linked to the series, also available on the occasion of the 25th anniversary, including Persona 3 watches., while the third is sharing some gifs with characters from the game on Atlus’ Twitter profile.
Of course, these may be mere coincidences. Still, the timing is curious, especially considering that the presence of seven announcements has already been confirmed scheduled during the 25th anniversary of the series. Even if a remake is not to be announced, a re-release of the game is more than likely, perhaps with many ports for other platforms. To find out the truth, we have to wait until 20/21 September.
