Crystal Dynamics has its hands full – and being on the cusp of being acquired by the Embracer Group, the studio is also working on the new Tomb Raider game, and new unofficial details about the project recently emerged.
Details come to us via the Sacred Symbols podcast, which reportedly had access to a script for the game. According to this source, the next Tomb Raider game is codenamed Project Jawbreaker. It is described as “an action-adventure game set in a modern world shaken by a mysterious cataclysm.”
Lara Croft is back, more mature and experienced, at a time when her exploits are known and proclaimed in the tabloids, taking her fame to another level.
“In this new phase of her life, Lara fully accepts her place among the ruins. For many years Lara has delved into the depths of forgotten places, played cat and mouse with many nefarious foes, and worked to discover, preserve, and protect the lost secrets of the world, preventing it from falling into the wrong hands”, reads the script.
“As the years went by, Lara became lonely at the top. The beginning of this next chapter presents Lara with an adult problem: facing something too big to handle alone. In this new adventure, Lara will find a challenge that she can only overcome with a team on her side. Collaboration is strange for her: she has always been successful on her own, so in this situation, she is a fish out of water”.
For the role of Lara Croft, Crystal Dynamics is reportedly looking for an “authentically British” actress in her mid-30s with similar traits to “Emily Blunt or Rosamund Pike.”
It should be noted that this information is not official, and for now, the next Tomb Raider is still at an early stage of development, with its producers only confirming that the game will be developed using Unreal Engine 5.
