It is no secret that Battlefield 2042 proved to be an unexpected flop for EA and DICE. Despite the Roadmap and all the promises to fans, it regained the community’s trust, and relaunching a game with fewer and fewer players will certainly be difficult. However, according to an inside source, DICE is building on the criticisms received and is ready to turn the tables with the next chapter now in development.
The information comes from Tom Henderson, an insider who has always been a certainty on the Battlefield front and who talked about the future of the series in a new article for Xfire. According to the words of the journalist, DICE and EA would have already started work on a new chapter, now in pre-production, with a modern setting and the return to the class system, after the unfortunate parenthesis of the specialists introduced in Battlefield 2042. The best time for the release would be the winter of 2023. Still, according to Henderson, the new chapter will not see the light before 2024, and in the meantime, the studio will continue to support Battlefield 2042, trying to solve the main problems highlighted by the fans.
Battlefield 2042 launched in November 2021, but the number of active players plummeted between January and February 2022; the daily average (approximately 2,000 users) is much lower than that of Battlefield 1 (9,000) and Battlefield V ( 27,000 ). EA and DICE, however, have stated that they will introduce new content in 2022, including the first season of online PvP.
