According to Jeff Grubb, the Roller Champions, Ubisoft’s free-to-play sports video game, will be canceled shortly after the conclusion of Season 3 of online multiplayer. The GamesBeat journalist said he had received the information from one of his sources, who confirmed the French studio’s intention to pull the plug, similar to what happened a few months ago with the HyperScape battle royale. If so, the Roller Champions project could be defined as one of the biggest flops in Ubisoft’s recent history, given that the launch dates back only to last May 25.
” Roller Champions will be canceled shortly after Season 3; it’s the last-minute news,” said Jeff Grubb, who revealed during the XboxEra podcast that he received the information throughout the weekend. Currently, interest in a video games seems to be quite low, with fewer than 100 viewers on Twitch and very few new players. Ubisoft does not seem interested in investing in such a particular project in the long term. You can listen to the conversation starting at 1:23:23.
Roller Champions debuted on May 25 with Season 0 and kicked off Season 1 “Saturday Night Fever” on June 21. The current season is expected to end in August and the next in October. If Jeff Grubb’s rumors turn out to be correct, news of the cancellation should arrive in December.
