Rockstar will end online services for GTA Online on PS3 and Xbox 360 on December 16th.
This isn’t the only game affected by the studio’s decision: the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Max Payne and LA Noire will also run out of online services starting Sept 16.
In addition, Shark Cards for the PS3 and Xbox 360 version of GTA Online will no longer be sold from 15 September. These purchases are specific to the platforms they were purchased for and are not transferable.
Note that these changes only affect online versions of games. While progress in single-player campaigns is safeguarded, the same can’t be said for online progress, which cannot be transferred to the PS4 and Xbox One console versions, as this feature isn’t available.
Rockstar justifies the decision with the increased focus on the latest versions of the online mode, as it prepares the online version of the game for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, which should be released during the fall of 2021.
