Resident Evil 4 VR, unveiled during the RE Showcase, will be released later this year on Oculus Quest 2. The news comes from the Oculus Gaming Showcase, where more details have been revealed. Armature revealed that the graphics would undergo improvements over the original game, and the audio now rendered three-dimensional for greater involvement. The game will also be adapted to a virtual context without messing with the mechanics of Resident Evil 4.
During last week’s Resident Evil Showcase, we discovered the announcement of Resident Evil 4 VR coming to Oculus Quest 2. During its Gaming Showcase, Oculus revealed new details about the game, confirming that the title will arrive later this year.
Oculus claims that Armature hasn’t messed with Resident Evil 4’s mechanics but is re-adapting it to a virtual context. “Weapons and items have been redesigned as physical items that you can pick up and interact with,” the developers report. “You will also be able to switch weapons by grabbing them from your body instead of entering a menu, and you will be able to wield separate weapons with each hand.”
During the event, Oculus also stated that Resident Evil 4 VR would support the movement with the analog sticks on the Touch controllers, teleportation, and even room-scale movement. The audio is also undergoing an update, with 3D sounds and enemy sounds actually indicating which direction we are being attacked from.
The developers also reported that the graphics can be seen from the Resident Evil Showcase trailer and have undergone minor improvements. The armature is, in fact, dusting off some of the old files from the original game.
“Armature uses the main elements of the original Resident Evil 4 to guide the gameplay and systems but has remastered the graphics: over 4,500 textures have been repainted, or their resolution has been increased. Character animations have been faithfully converted to Unreal Engine 4, and all cutscenes will be presented in their original format. “
Oculus hasn’t announced a specific launch date for Resident Evil 4 VR yet, but they mention that it will arrive later this year on Oculus Quest 2.
