Devotion, the horror game from Red Candle Games that was banned in February 2019, is now available digitally in a DRM-less version.
Red Candle Games said via Twitter and confirmed that Devotion, Detention, and all upcoming projects would be available through its own Red Candle e-shop to provide a “direct and simple channel for players interested in purchasing our games.”
Devotion was pulled from Steam in 2019 after users found an in-game Winnie the Pooh meme ridiculing Chinese President Xi Jinping. Red Candle apologized and said it had no plans to re-release Devotion during that period.
In 2020, Devotion made headlines again when Red Candle Games announced that Devotion would return through CD Projekt’s GOG distribution platform on December 18, 2020.
GOG later posted a message stating that “after we received a lot of messages from gamers, we decided not to offer the game in our store.” Now, more than two years later, interested parties can still purchase Devotion.
