It had been in the air for months, and now it’s official. Red Dead Online’s post-launch support has been scaled down to support the production of Grand Theft Auto VI. As a result, the RDR2 multiplayer appendix will not receive any more thematic updates or major future updates. Rockstar has announced the cut in resources with a new post published on social media, explaining that support will continue with new missions and minor content for existing game modes. This cut will not be applied to Grand Theft Auto Online, which will continue to be supported at full capacity at least until the release of the next chapter.
“We would like to thank the passionate Red Dead Online community for their support and dedication,” writes Rockstar Games. “As our developers focus on the next title in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, aware of the very high expectations of the players and the need to anticipate and exceed them to create an incredible product, we are working on some changes for our support for Red Dead Online .. […] In addition to seasonal special events, experience improvements, and other changes to improve and maintain a healthy game environment, we intend to expand existing game modes and add new missions via wire instead of focusing on thematic updates as in previous years. We want to thank you once again for all your support. We are very grateful for the constructive feedback we have received, and we hope you will continue to give it to us. “
Red Dead Online has not breathed its last, but it is clear that post-launch support will soon receive an abrupt halt and that the new content will not be as ambitious as what has been seen in the past. However, the reduction in resources is not necessarily bad news, as it should speed up the development process of the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI.
