When Sony tries to move away from its old consoles like PS3, gamers are looking for new ways to bring their nostalgia to life. The Japanese company wants to push PS5 backward compatibility with its older consoles, but it will take several months before that happens. So, for now, there is only one solution: emulation.
Speaking of emulators, RPCS3 is certainly the most advanced. Launched in 2011, this emulator has just taken a giant leap. On Twitter, the developers announced that all PS3 games can now be launched on the emulator.
” We are pleased to announce that RPCS3 now has a total of zero games pending! This means that all known games and apps are launched at least on the emulator, with no regression preventing the games from starting .”
There is, however, a premise: if all games can theoretically start via the emulator, this does not mean that we can play them. RPCS3 ranks the 6000 titles available on PS3 into five categories: Playable, In-game, Intro, Loading, and Nothing. The Playable category is dedicated to, as the name suggests, all games that work perfectly on the emulator, while the Nothing category refers to titles that do not start.
As we can see, in the In-game category (30.53% of titles), “games that cannot be completed, have critical bugs or performance issues” are included. In the Intro category (5.75% of the titles) are placed the “games that appear on the screen but do not go beyond the menus,” and in the Loading category (0.19% of the titles), the “games that display a screen with a framerate. ” The remaining 63.53% indicates that games can be started, played, and finished.
The developers also said they “can’t wait to clear the Loading category as well,” which shouldn’t take too long. In other words, RPCS3 is a serious candidate to become the best PS3 emulator for PC.
