A Bloomberg report that focuses primarily on LCDs and virtual reality says Sony plans to launch a new VR headset in late 2022.
The report also notes that Sony plans to ” use Samsung Display Co. OLED ” for its headset.
First launched in 2016, Sony has so far sold over five million PlayStation VR headsets. That doesn’t seem like much when you consider that there are over 115 million PS4 consoles out there (and 8 million PS5 consoles, which support it), but it’s clearly enough to get Sony to start working on a new and improved headset.
In February of this year, Sony officially announced the new headset, with a new controller and the first juicy details. The headset has been described as ” a next-generation VR system that improves everything from resolution and field of view to input .”
Given the progress of VR headsets on PC, it is hoped that Sony will make some decisive steps forward with the new PSVR, also because the current headset is five years old and is starting to show its age a little.
