During today’s Annapurna Interactive keynote, we received two surprising announcements of next-gen updates to the company’s most beloved games: Outer Wilds and What Remains of Edith Finch.
First off, Outer Wilds is getting a 60fps update on Xbox Series X, S, and PS5 coming September 15, which will be free if you already own the game. Developer Mobius Digital has also confirmed that the game is still planned for Switch at some point in the future but has not yet given a date.
Meanwhile, What Remains of Edith Finch is getting a 60fps and 4k update on Xbox Series X and PS5, and that update is free and available today.
Both are nice surprise updates to two widely acclaimed games. We have already said that Edith Finch is one of the company’s roundest titles, a short and daring game that deals with a subject as delicate as death and the acceptance of its nature and that, furthermore, can be completed in just one afternoon. The game narrates the return home of its protagonist, an abandoned house full of memories of a family marked by misfortune and fatalism. The title was released in 2017 and enthusiastically received by the public and critics thanks to its peculiar narrative and ability to reinterpret its mechanics based on the story narrated at each moment.
OuterWilds was equally well received. It is an unconventional space adventure that accentuates the structure to achieve its character, triggered by word of mouth among the players. Its DLC, released late last year and titled Echoes of the Eye, was the icing on a cake that tastes even better in memory.
