Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia has ended production of all PlayStation 4 Slim models (CUH-2000 series), except one, and all PlayStation 4 Pro models (CUH-7000 series) in Japan, according to the company’s own announcement. The news had been unofficially circulating since the weekend.
The only PlayStation 4 model that will continue to be manufactured and sold in Japan is the standard 500 GB Slim model in “Jet Black.”
The PlayStation 4 Slim was first launched in September 2016 in Japan, followed by the PlayStation 4 Pro in November 2016. The original PlayStation 4 model (CUH-1000 series), which has now ended production, was launched in February 2014.
Sony Interactive Entertainment plans to use the newly released production lines to manufacture the PlayStation 5, which faces an extreme shortage of stock in Japan and makes a quick transition to the latest hardware.
