In pending the formal presentation to be held on September 16, Facebook and the Oculus team shared (perhaps accidentally) the announcement trailer Oculus Quest 2, which is the new model for virtual reality viewer that points to the next-gen.
In detail, all the material leaked on Oculus Quest 2 was shared by the same Facebook team in the section of its official website dedicated to projects. Various references have already been removed, but the Quest 2 presentation footage is still in plain sight. Thanks to a second in-depth video, which we propose below, we know in advance the next generation viewer’s technical characteristics according to Oculus:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor
- 6 GB of RAM
- Nearly 2K resolution per eye – over 50% more pixels than Quest 1
- 3D positional audio
- New controller ergonomics
- 256 GB of integrated and optional storage
The videos confirm that Oculus Quest 2 will be perfectly backward compatible with its predecessor, so future buyers of the new model will continue to enjoy the titles included in their collection. Its packaging should include a tear-off soft-touch strap that should make the headset easier to put on, which will still be smaller and lighter than the Oculus Quest series’s debut model.
In the two videos, no mention is made of any official release date and its sale price, so to know all the details on Oculus Quest 2, we will have to wait for the presentation, which should take place on Facebook Connect on September 16.
