My Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble was announced as a surprise last January 13, and today Bandai Namco finally showed the first official gameplay video. The game will be a free-to-play battle royale with 24-player battles and will be released in 2022 on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. A Closed Beta is expected in Japan between February 2 and 6.
Bandai Namco has released almost half an hour of commented gameplay in Japanese, in which the components of the roster and some of the game mechanics are revealed. Matches will be structured like a classic battle royale, with eight teams of three competing for the ultimate victory. Players will choose their character and landing zone on the battlefield. Then they will have to explore the area to retrieve items and open treasures to upgrade their skills and gain other advantages over their opponents.
The Closed Beta will offer twelve characters from the series, Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, All Might, Shoto Todoroki, Ochaco Uraraka, Tsuyu Asui, Cementoss, and Mt. Lady for the heroes and Tomura Shigaraki, Dabi, Himiko Toga, and Mr. Compress for the villains. The full roster will likely be larger, or new characters will be added during post-launch support.
My Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble will be completely free and debut in 2022 on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. Bandai Namco has confirmed compatibility with PS5 and Xbox Series X / S but has not revealed if the next-gen versions will be able to count on technical improvements.
