Capcom has unveiled several new details about its “massive expansion” of Monster Hunter Rise, Sunbreak. Announced during a showcase at the Tokyo Game Show 2021, some footage of the game was shown, and new details on the monsters and places we will visit were provided.
It is an expansion for experienced Rise players, allowing access only after finishing the 7-star Serpent Goddess of Thunder mission. The expansion will also introduce a new Master Rank level for missions.
After finishing that mission, we will take our hunter on a journey, leaving the main game hub, Kamura Village, behind to enter a brand new base of operations (which has not yet been revealed). The creepy place we saw in the game’s introductory trailer was confirmed to be a new hunting spot complete with ruins to climb.
More details have also been provided on some of the monsters involved. The Elder Dragon seen in the first trailer is called Malzeno, but nothing else has been said. We’ll also see some familiar monsters from older games, including Shogun Ceanataur.
Capcom also announced that the PC version of Monster Hunter Rise will be released in January 2022. Since Sunbreak will not arrive until summer 2022, it will be released on PC simultaneously.
