M2H and Blackmill Games have announced Isonzo, the sequel to Verdun’s FPS game (also dealing with WWI). The game is in development and will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, PS4, and Xbox One. You can see the announcement trailer below.
Isonzo will put you in the shoes of a soldier sent to the Italian front of the Great War and have sequences of “Alpine battle.” The developers describe the game this way: The fighting takes place among the magnificent mountains, rugged valleys, and idyllic villages of northern Italy. The all-new Offensive Mode places players at the center of key historical battles on the Italian front and high-altitude combat in the Alps while passing through fierce battles for the Isonzo River.
Isonzo, like Verdun and Tannenberg before in this famous WWI game series, seems to have been created to be most faithful to the historical context of the time. Weapons, uniforms, and specific settings have been recreated very precisely, according to the developers, who describe their series of games as having been “built on real historical foundations and much sought after.” While Verdun was more focused on trench warfare, Isonzo will go much further than the trenches by going, for example, to battle in the Alps.
“The Italian Front was the perfect opportunity for us to make our WWI game series famous,” says M2H co-founder Matt Hergaarden. “The Battles over the Alps in Isonzo bring a lot of refreshing new game mechanics back to the series, with the Italian Army facing off against Austria-Hungary. “
