We are days away from NBA 2K22 announcement if tradition holds, and we can expect a release date in a couple of months. Despite the PS5 shortage, Sony managed to still more than 9 million consoles, which already makes a good path for it to be the best-selling console in history.
Even though the console was released a couple of months ago, it seems like the performance of this extraordinary machine isn’t used at its full capacity.
The number of games exclusive for PS5 is small, and most new titles are just reworked versions of the PS4 games, which is why people are starting to wonder if the PS5 is a good investment.
In today’s article, we are focused on the NBA 2K franchise and its compatibility with current generation consoles.
NBA 2K22 Release Date
Weird enough, we still haven’t heard anything from EA about this year’s 2K game. If tradition holds, they announce new titles in June or early July, but they are quiet this year.
Does this mean that there will be no 2K22 this year?
Of course not. They are working on the new game, and even though we don’t have an official release date yet, we can expect the game sometime in September or October.
If we look at last year, the NBA 2K21 release date was staggered. This means that the game launched for last-generation consoles and PC in early September, but the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game came later on November 10th.
We still don’t know whether or not this year will continue with the same staggered release date for different consoles, but we hope to see the game available for current generation consoles right away.
So, is the NBA 2K22 coming to PS5? – It will definitely come to PS5, but we don’t know whether or not that will be on the first day of the release.
NBA 2K and PS5 Partnership
The relationship with Sony and the NBA 2K franchise just got deeper after they announced a new partnership which makes the PS5 the official console of the NBA 2K league.
Just a few months ago, PlayStation announced that the partnership allowed the two companies to bond together and make content even more interesting for fans. A few months ago, they started with 23 NBA 2K League teams and 138 players that will compete on PS5 during games and events.
This multilayer partnership has a lot more to offer. It promises to allow the global community of fans to participate in online fan tournaments that will be hosted throughout the year, featuring NBA 2K league-related prizes.
So, if you have some impressive 2K basketball skills, make sure you get to a tournament where you can earn up to $25,000.
This connection proves that we will see the upcoming 2K game for the PS5, especially since most of these new features from the partnership are only limited to PS5 users.
About the New Game
If you love the 2K franchise and you buy each year’s game, then you’d probably know that EA is all about secrecy. They don’t release new features, updates, or information about their new game until a month or even days before its release.
It seems like they are working to the last minute to make sure that the game is perfect. You will play with the current rosters, and some legends might be added, like Manute Bol and some other of the tallest players in NBA history.

We can expect some changes in some of the most popular modes like MyCAREER and some improvements on current-generation platforms like the PS5. It seems like last year; every game developer chased the release date of the PlayStation 5, which resulted in a lot of bags and not good enough games.
Now we have the new consoles for more than half a year, and we expect much better work from game developers, especially when it comes to using the maximum performance of the console effectively.
There isn’t much information about the new 2K22, but we expect it to be one of the best games that the franchise released for a long time.
