IO Interactive has announced a mountain of news for Hitman 3, the latest chapter of the World of Assassination Trilogy, revealing an unreleased mode called “Freelancer” and the release date of many highly anticipated content from fans, including support for VR and Ray Tracing. In conclusion, the Danish studio also showed a short preview of a new map coming out this year, called “Rocky.”
First, IO Interactive presented “Elusive Target Arcade,” a new game mode in which Agent 47 will be called upon to eliminate multiple elusive targets one after the other. The mode will include new challenges, exclusive rewards, and difficulty modifiers. Each failed challenge will activate a lockdown of 12 (real) hours, during which it will not be possible to retry the mission. In this way, the studio hopes to inspire players to give their best to earn the rewards. The mode will be available from January 20.
Also, on January 20, Hitman 3 will arrive on Steam and include support for VR technology. IO Interactive revealed that they have done a lot of work on VR support and added many settings to make the experience even more fun. More details on the support will be revealed on launch day.
Additionally, Hitman 3 on PC will support Ray Tracing, XeSS, and VRS (Variable Rate Shading) for 2022, taking image quality to the next level. These innovations are foreseen only for PC, but it cannot be excluded that Ray Tracing will also be introduced on new generation consoles in the future.
In conclusion, IO Interactive announced the “Freelancer” mode coming in the spring of 2022 on all platforms. This new mode with roguelike components will allow Agent 47 to access a Safe House with fully customizable interiors and to take part in a series of new exclusive missions that will bring him back to explore old maps of the World of Assassination Trilogy in search of new and dangerous targets.
Before each mission, players will be able to move freely around the apartment, access a secret wing with all the equipment for the assassinations, and choose what to bring with them to eliminate the targets. The order of the missions will be at the discretion of the players, but for the first time, 47 will not receive the support of the ICA, so any resources lost on the battlefield will disappear forever. Players will still be able to steal new weapons during missions and unlock new mansion areas for high scores.
Hitman 3: Freelancer will be available starting this spring; it has not been specified if free or paid expansion. You can look at the preview from 8:25 of the attached video. In the last seconds of the video, it is also possible to see a small preview of the new “Rocky” map coming out in 2022.
Hitman 3 is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, and PC (Epic Games Store), and from January 20, also on Steam. A complete collection called the Hitman Trilogy will soon be available in digital exclusive, including on Game Pass.
