Today, French publisher Nacon and studio Rogue Factor announced Hell is Us, a new action/adventure video game in 2023 on PS5, Xbox Series X / S, and PC. The announcement trailer reveals the first information about the game, which will be set in a country destroyed by a civil war, where an apocalyptic event described as “The Calamity” has brought terrible bloodthirsty to living creatures. The protagonist will have to make his way through the horrors, explore the destroyed country and find out what caused this mysterious event.
Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, former artistic director of Eidos Montreal known for working on Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, returns to the role of Creative Director. The game is developed in Unreal Engine 5 by Rogue Factor, the studio of Necromunda: Underhive Wars and Mordheim: City of the Damned, and it is no coincidence that the union of the two parts resulted in a project that seems rich in anachronistic elements, with half between modern and dark fantasy, and gameplay that involves the use of sidearms such as swords and hyper-technological drones.
“With Hell is Us, we want to give players a real feeling of adventure and exploration,” explained Jacques-Belletête, “so there will be no mission diaries or map markers. We want players to decide who to guide them from their instincts “.
The words suggest an Elden Ring-style experience, with the most absolute freedom of action and very few constraints for the players. In contrast, the official trailer visible below suggests an experience halfway between Control and Death Stranding.
Hell is Us does not yet have a release date, but the study has confirmed that it will arrive in 2023 only on PC and next-generation consoles. Alain Falc, CEO of Nacon, stated that the project is the most ambitious ever created by Rogue Factor and that more information will be revealed in the coming months.
