Of the many MMORPG games out there, Guild Wars 2 is best in this genre. Unfortunately, it seemed like they had a shortage of players over the past few years.
Even after the basic game is permanently free, players only need to buy the expansion. This makes ArenaNet have to think of new ways to bring in new players for the game. And Steam was chosen to be the solution.
Through the game’s anniversary live stream and the official forum, ArenaNet announced that Guild Wars 2 would be visiting Steam in November 2020. They wanted to invite new players to explore Tyria with the community they had formed over the past few years.
The “move” of Guild Wars 2 to Steam also allows players to play with players who have become veteran players via the ArenaNet launcher on one server. In other words, players don’t need to have the same client to play them.
Unfortunately, there is bad news for older players who want to move their accounts to the Steam version or vice versa. This is because ArenaNet makes it clear that the feature is not available to them.
At this time, ArenaNet still has not provided more detailed information on when Guild Wars 2 will be released on Steam in addition to November 2020.
