Rockstar announced that GTA Online would receive a Franklin-focused story expansion. “The Contract” will be set years after the events of the main GTA 5 campaign. The release is slated for December 15th and will focus on Franklin working at the new “celebrity agency” and will feature Dr. Dre on new music composed for the game.
Like all updates to GTA Online, the expansion will be free and will show F. Clinton and Partner, an agency that offers “solutions to the problems of the elite of Los Santos. Your GTA Online character will meet Franklin through Lamar Davis and will be tasked with taking the business to the next level.
As part of that story, GTA 5 radio host (and GTA Online co-writer) DJ Pooh will contact Franklin to suggest a potential client — Dr. Dre. Dre lost his phone, which is full of new unreleased music. You will be tasked with protecting the tracks and returning them to legendary artist 0- and you can do this alone or with a team.
Rockstar says you’ll work with Franklin himself, Chop the Dog, and a hacker named Imani to travel from Franklin’s old neighborhood to Los Santos parties and the FIB offices to recover the tracks. As you can see from the trailer above, it looks like we’ll be meeting other famous artists as well, as Anderson Paak appears — and a cameo by Snoop Dogg on the soundtrack could be the sign of another cameo.
As you can expect, these tracks will become part of the game, and Rockstar promises more songs in the update. Today’s announcement announces “an eclectic new radio station of some very special guest presenters, massive all-new updates to existing radio stations, including a ton of exclusive new and unreleased Dr. Dre tracks and a lineup of hit artists.”
The update will also bring new weapons, vehicles, contracts, and more. Rockstar says we’ll know more about the music and the expansion as a whole “in the next few days.”
This, by the way, is confirmation that Dr. Dre was working on new music for GTA Online, not GTA 6 as some expected. Aside from knowing it’s in development, we know little about the long-awaited GTA 6 — although some think Rockstar has put a screenshot of it in the San Andreas GTA Trilogy remaster.
