Gotham Knights A mountain of gameplay, setting, and character details

Patrick Redding, creative director in charge of Gotham Knights development, revealed a series of unpublished information about the game during an interview with the microphones of PlayStation Blog EU. Among the details, the representative of WB Games Montréal talked about the character progression system, the various types of enemies, and the open-world setting.

“The first to be affected by a tragedy are the people closest to it,” explained Redding, “which is why we chose Barbara Gordon, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, and Tim Drake. They are four people who have lived for a long time. Time together with Bruce Wayne and that the Dark Knight’s behavior influenced them. The second reason lies in their way of fighting, since four such different approaches allowed us to explore extremely varied gameplay solutions, whether you decide to play in single and co-op for two players.”

According to the creative director, Red Hood (which will probably become Red Hood in the Italian version) will have a brawler fighting style that is very violent and focused on firearms. Dick Grayson, or Nightwing, will rely on his incredible agility to chain extremely theatrical combos. Simultaneously, the current Robin will use the shadows in his favor, guaranteeing a stealth approach in pure Batman style and inflicting negative status on enemies. As for Batgirl, instead, Redding stated that “the heroine will use the environment to her advantage thanks to her skills as a hacker, while for the melee she will rely on extremely effective and precise shots.”

Unlike Batman: Arkham Knight, this new video game will not tell the events of a single night, but instead will follow the growth of these four heroes in the medium to long term. Players will choose who to use from time to time, and each of the characters will boast a unique skill tree, an arsenal, and a progression system, which can be expanded after obtaining a certain number of experience points.

Also, in this regard, Redding stated that Gotham will be completely explorable and that it will be full of secrets, side missions, and other activities, so there shouldn’t be the risk of getting bored. The city’s design is inspired by that shown in comics, movies, and TV series. Unlike the Arkham series, we can expect a living and pulsating world, with citizens leaving their homes to run errands or go to work, criminal factions fighting each other. And much more.

Furthermore, the developer has stated that enemies will evolve dynamically and that their level will scale with that of the players. Each fight will have a specific weight, whether you’re fighting a mini-gang or competing with a high-profile antagonist. The team’s idea is to make players feel like Gotham’s true protectors and see the outcome of their actions night after night. It has been confirmed that the game map will include a total of five visitable districts, controlled by as many factions.

Gotham Knights will see the light in 2021 and available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. At the moment, no details have been revealed regarding a hypothetical Switch version.
