Yahoo Answers, a database used to ask a variety of questions, such as building a bookshelf or whether it’s legal to kill an ant, will close its doors for good on May 4th. Then the Yahoo Answers page will redirect to Yahoo.
The info comes to us from the Yahoo Answer page, which explains the question submissions for the site will end on April 20. This leaves a little time for users to say goodbye to a community that has been built since 2005.
Yahoo, bought by VerizonMedia Group in 2017 for $ 5 billion, says the platform’s declining popularity is one of the reasons the Answers page is being closed. Since Yahoo Answers’ launch, sites like Reddit have exploded, allowing many users to find answers to their questions publicly with many answers.
Considering the decline in popularity for Yahoo and Yahoo Answers, the current version of the site offers a lot fewer questions than you would ask while getting really drunk and more like a sanctuary for conspiracy theories, so maybe it’s just as well for Yahoo to focus on other services.
Yahoo says users will have until June 30 to request a downloadable copy of their account’s questions and answers. After that, Yahoo Answers will erase all of these Q&A permanently.
