Entering the COVID-19 pandemic, companies that have postponed and turned physical events online or working from home are no longer new to some industries. One of them is a video game. Since the delay of E3, the Tokyo Game Show, to BlizzCon, several events have also been delayed. One of them is Gamescom Asia, which is planned to be held this year.
The organizer, Koelnmesse, announced that one of the most significant video game events in the world planned to be held in Asia was finally postponed. They did it because the COVID-19 pandemic was getting worse. They were making the event forced to be held next year on October 14-17, 2021.
Matthias Kuepper, Managing Director of Koelnmesse, explained that they want to prioritize good health for visitors, participants, and their staff. “We feel that providing the full experience of international events to the regional gaming community is the most important thing for us. Therefore, we postponed it until 2021, “he said.
They have discussed it with shareholders, partners, and the Singapore government to decide what they should do to maintain the safety of the participants.
With this delay, Koelnmesse promised to focus on the Gamescom Asia title in 2021.
