Sony confirmed today that it would not participate in Gamescom 2022, as well as Nintendo, Activision Blizzard, and Take-Two Interactive. In recent years, the first two have rarely participated in public events, reserving their announcements dedicated to video games for the State of Play and Nintendo Direct. The situation will not change with the return of the Cologne fair from 24 to August 28.
Fortunately, the organizers of the Verband der Deutschen Games-Branche have confirmed that this year Gamescom will still be able to count on more than 250 studios and publishers; good news has given the return in attendance after two years of stoppage caused by Covid. There will be Koch Media, Bandai Namco, and THQ Nordic. At the same time, at the moment, Microsoft has not confirmed anything. It could also take advantage of the absence of competition to position itself in the spotlight again after the excellent showcase on June 12 held during the Summer Game Fest.
Gamescom 2022 will kick off on August 23 in Livestream with Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live, an unmissable event full of announcements dedicated to the world of video games. The fair will open its doors on August 24 and continue until 28, both in the presence and digitally. In the coming weeks, the names of the studios present during the most important events will be revealed.
