There was a fire in Strasbourg tonight in two buildings of the OVH hosting company. The event negatively affected the operation of various services, including the popular survival game Rust.
The creators of the project from the Facepunch studio informed that 25 European production servers had been destroyed. The developers emphasized that they are trying to replace them with new ones, which apparently succeeds, they announced the launch of some of the servers.
However, while the title’s functionality will be restored, the authors have not been able to recover the data that has been irretrievably lost. This means that your game progress is lost (but resets every month) and player-managed worlds.
The fire also damaged the servers of other services and portals. The Catholic Information Agency website is still unavailable; there are also problems with the tool for sellers on Allegro.
The head of OVH – Octave Klaba – reported that the fire destroyed one of the four server room buildings, partially damaged the other, and the others were successfully protected. During the incident, all employees were evacuated, and no one was injured.
