Naoki Yoshida, leader of the Creative Business Unit III and Producer of Final Fantasy XVI, is back to talk about the game in a new interview, revealing several details about the production of the new chapter, the game structure, and the protagonists. Among other things, the Producer also answered one of the most frequently asked questions regarding the potential presence of a party to support the protagonist of this new story, Clive Rosfield.
“We didn’t want to overwhelm the fans by revealing too much in the latest trailer, so we mostly focused on Clive’s battles,” Yoshida explained. “Having said that, it is important to say that for most of the trip, Clive will be accompanied by one or more teammates. They will participate in the battles and talk to him, but the AI will control them, so players can concentrate using only Clive.”.
Final Fantasy XVI, therefore, will have a similar structure to that already seen in Final Fantasy XV at launch, with only one playable character and an AI-controlled party. In the last chapter of the series, the situation has changed over time, with the release of various patches and the Royal Edition. Still, in this case, it seems that the team wants to focus primarily on Clive and ensure a strong bond is created between the player and the protagonist. Moving on, Yoshida suggested that the cub Torgal seen in the first trailer (minute 0:56) could play an important role, accompanying Clive and assisting him in the battles. In the trailer in question, we witnessed a potential temporal ellipsis, so it’s possible that the cub grows up and takes part in Clive’s journey as a companion.
