The international animal rights organization PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) demands that Ubisoft remove the cockfight minigame.
This optional side activity features a bird battle stylized as a classic fighting game like Tekken. There is even a familiar fighter select screen, and the player steers his rooster with different punches.
“Making a Mortal Kombat game out of the terrible, bloody cockfight dispute is a long way from true innovation at a time when society strongly opposes forcing animals to fight,” PETA Latino senior manager Alicia Aguayo wrote in an official statement.
It is worth mentioning that the “far cry” was referred to as “far cry” in the original, which is an obvious reference to the title of the Ubisoft series.
“The cocks that are used in combat are equipped with spurs that cut through the muscles and bones, causing agony and fatal wounds,” Aguayo continues. “PETA Latino recommends Ubisoft replace this shameful minigame with one that doesn’t glorify atrocities.”
The game publisher defends the optional content and has no intention of removing it:
“Far Cry 6 is a fantastic story set in Yara, a fictional Caribbean island. Many side activities represent part of Yara’s culture and history, and various Latin American cultures have inspired them themselves “- replied Ubisoft, quoted by brytfmonline.com
