EVO 2022, the new edition of the annual eSport event focused on fighting games, will be held this weekend from 5 to 7 August, with many tournaments dedicated to the main fighting video games, including MultiVersus, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and Guilty Gear. Sony, owner of the event since 2021, along with RTS, has announced that the tournaments will be held over all three days on August 5 and 6. Fans will also be able to connect on YouTube and Twitch to follow the EVO Lounge, a live show with updates and announcements from major fighting game publishers.
Sony has confirmed the presence of Capcom ( Street Fighter ), Warner Bros ( MultiVersus, Mortal Kombat, Injustice ), Bandai Namco ( Tekken, Dragon Ball FighterZ ), Arc System Works ( Guilty Gear ), and SNK ( The King of Fighters), and we can expect updates and announcements from each of these publishers. We know that Guilty Gear Strive will be introducing Season Pass 2 soon, so we expect some information about it, while SNK could present the new team DLC coming to The King of Fighters 15. Bandai Namco could present the new Tekken or new characters for Dragon Ball FighterZ, while Capcom will almost certainly show Street Fighter 6.
A separate discussion for Warner Bros, which theoretically should only show MultiVersus. The game has become a global phenomenon in a few weeks, with millions of players and huge expectations for the future, so we expect to see new characters and maybe get some information on the next season. Nothing to do for Mortal Kombat 12, which we know is in development since Ed Boon has confirmed that there will be no updates on the matter. Since the studio is working on MK12, it goes without saying that we will not even see Injustice 3, the production of which seems to have been suspended.
